The Egyptian Papyrus with the Cat Goddess, Bastet.
The cat was worshiped in ancient Egypt as Bastet,
the goddess of the sunshine and warmth.
Also known as the sister of the god Ra, she was a patron to pregnant women and protectoress of the Pharoah.
The Egyptian Papyrus is made by slicing thin strips of River Nile reeds and laying them criss-cross. They are then soaked in water and dried under weight. The result makes a very durable paper, which has been used since ancient times.
The papyrus painting measures aproximately 9" X 12".
It is painted in Gouache watercolor.
